The Drum: Design Campaign of the Year

Reflecting on this year’s Pride in London theme of “Love Happens Here”, we felt it was important to shine a light on previous generations of London’s LGBT+ community and their inspiring achievements made in the face of adversity. Re-telling their stories as a reminder that the battle isn’t over yet.

Such powerful stories demand authenticity – we needed to bring people closer to the reality. So for the duration of Pride, we hijacked the iconic blue heritage plaques of famous LGBT+ Londoners with a rainbow makeover. A vibrant symbol disrupting the street to recognise the real people that lived here.
Without spending a penny on media, our campaign hit national news headlines and reached four million people, inspiring over 3K conversations online. Not forgetting the immeasurable impact on the people who we encouraged to think again about the history of the streets they live on and the injustices that remain.
